Studies in Grace:
Who we are; What we do
Studies in Grace™ is a non-profit educational ministry of instruction
in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, which exists for the
purpose of broadening and deepening the experience of the life in grace
of those who participate in its classes. It does not adhere to the specific
theologies of any particular church, but in its perspective on the Scriptures
and life is broadly evangelical (we teach that one must respond personally
and individually to God's gracious gift of salvation) and reformed (we
believe that the Christian life involves positive engagement with society
on many levels
A Year in the Bible™ classes meet at various locations in the
Twin Cities and meet over the course of 19 to 23 months in four terms.
(The duration of the time elapsed to complete a course depends on whether
a given course begins in the Winter or Fall term.) Participants have reading
and writing assignments each week and 13 weekly two-hour classes during
each term. These classes are designed for the person who wants to get
the most from a disciplined time spent studying the Bible.
All classes at present are taught by the Lead Instructor of Studies
in Grace™, Trace James. Trace has been teaching adult and youth Bible
study classes for the past thirty-two years in the Twin Cities area. In
the nineteen-seventies he served as associate staff with Young Life campaign
in the western Minneapolis suburbs and served as Coordinator for Christian
Nurture at Faith Presbyterian Church in the late seventies. From January
2001 until August, 2003 he was Teaching Pastor at Faith Covenant Church
in Burnsville. Trace has been an adult educator-trainer for businesses,
including the Toro® Company, Bloomington, Minnesota. Together with
the Studies in Grace™ Board of Trustees, Trace launched Studies
in Grace™ in July, 1999. Trace is the husband of one wife, father
of three adult children and grandfather of four. He resides with Karen,
his wife of over thirty-nine years, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
Some Christians are ready to go deep into the Scriptures, deeper than
they can go on their own, deeper than most churches, through most adult
Bible studies, can take them. We believe that God has given the vision,
means and method for that deeper study. It is our goal at Studies in
Grace™ to continue to offer these exciting and comprehensive courses
at area churches while developing ways to make them available to a wider
audience through DVD and audio recordings and through interactive internet.
In addition to A Year in the Bible™, Studies in Grace™ offers
a number of other courses. These
can be tailored to your group, Bible study, or adult class format. These
courses offer thought-provoking material, and any one can stand alone,
or serve as an introduction to other pieces of the Studies in Grace™
curriculum.
